Dear Sir:

I have a question about the random number. Yesterday you selected the number in the random number list and picked up the last two digits of them for the social security numbers selection. But in that list, some number has the same last two digits, so I think that this selecition should not be condsided randomly, because some last two digits has more chance to be selected then others.

Also I am quite interested in how the random number list be created, can I find this information in the book: The Lady Tasting Tea?

Thanks.

Sophia; it is possible to have a random number (r.n.) to repeat in the same column since they are randomly generated. If that is the case, you can just ignore that r.n. if it occurs again.

Random numbers are generated using a mathematical formula. A good explanation of this can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_number_generation. (I will check later to see if "The Lady..." book talks about this.)

P.S. I hope this will appear as a response to your comment.

sophia; I checked the "The Lady Tasting Tea" book, but it does not mention random number generation. If you are interested in this, you can look at introductory books on simulation; for example http://www.mhhe.com/engcs/industrial/lawkelton/
